Æcorn Bitter is described as “unapologetically bitter”. And if you don’t like bitter drinks, you probably won’t like this one.
Like all Æcorn drinks, it’s made from unripe grape juice. In this case, that juice is blended with grapefruit, bay leaves, orange, quassia, honeycomb and oak. Despite this very novel range of ingredients, we actually found it quite a traditional drink – in a good way! What you have here is a bitter Italian-style aperitivo analolico – a firm favourite with Italians and visitors to Italy for many, many years.
You can drink it on its own or mix it with soda or tonic. Either way, it’s a very pleasant tipple.
